Position Overview: AVX Aircraft is seeking a highly skilled UAV Lead Software Developer to ensure the autonomy and performance of our UAVs through rigorous testing and flight operations. This key role focuses on optimizing software, integrating avionics, and supporting autonomous flight capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development efforts to enable autonomous UAV operations, from testing regimes to flight tests.
  • Optimize software for performance, reliability, and safety in semi-autonomous and autonomous UAVs.
  • Integrate flight controllers with various payloads (Lidar, hyperspectral, EO/IR, etc.) and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Work with avionics networks such as ARINC 429, ARINC 664, MIL-STD-1553, etc.
  • Manage data transmission and downloading to ground-based systems, including sensor, mission, health, and configuration data.
  • Participate in both remote-controlled and autonomous UAV flight operations.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to deploy cutting-edge UAV platforms.
  • Model aircraft performance attributes in autopilots with the flight controls engineering team.
  • Utilize vehicle test data in simulated environments for further analysis and refinement.
  • Engage in team activities focused on process improvement, problem resolution, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of experience in UAV software development or related fields.
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with Pixhawk, ArduPilot, or similar flight controllers.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
  • Experience with Linux-based systems and real-time operating systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and system-level troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
