AVX Aircraft Company (AVX) is a recognized leader in vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft innovation, specializing in the development of cutting-edge unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). We are currently working on the design and development of a VTOL UAS for the U.S. government (USG), with potential applications for commercial markets. Our target UAS falls within the 300 lb to 600 lb takeoff gross weight (TOGW) class, a rapidly expanding sector where AVX's technical capabilities align with emerging market needs.

Position Overview:
AVX is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of VTOL UAS for the U.S. government and potential commercial applications. This role will oversee all phases of the UAS development lifecycle, from design and prototyping to testing and evaluation, with a focus on mission systems integration, AI-based autonomy, and hardware integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Execute UAS Development: Directly manage and contribute to all phases of UAS development, including design, prototyping, assembly, testing, and evaluation. Ensure technical objectives are met by driving progress and actively solving challenges at every stage of the process.
  • Drive the integration of mission systems, payloads, ground stations, and other supporting systems.
  • Lead the implementation of mission autonomy, incorporating available AI solutions to enhance vehicle capabilities.
  • Ensure that all sub-systems and components are developed in collaboration with industry partners and suppliers.
  • Develop and present technical briefings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a strong, cohesive technical team and maintain high standards of innovation and performance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven technical leadership in VTOL UAS design, development, and testing.
  • Experience leading technical teams through the full lifecycle of aircraft development programs.
  • Expertise in UAS AI, mission autonomy, and advanced flight testing.
  • Background in designing for low-cost, producibility, and sustainment.
  • Advanced degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Current SECRET Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
